Reservation in IIT’S/IIM’S-the HRD Ministry goes wrong
The HRD minister recently announced that by the amendment to the reservation act its now mandatory to have reservations for OBC students in state run higher learning institutions such as IIT’s and IIM’s(i dont know whether IISc will come under this).India’s pride is on these institutions and they are even compared with Ivy league Universities. Now this amendment will b surely a threat to the India’s learning community. The main con is that a meritorious student will be denied a seat for being a forward caste while a low scoring OBC student takes that seat.Already this reservations exist in all jobs and studies in India except these institutions. The Government need not reserve seats to bring them forward instead they can provide books, scholarships and training to economically backward students to make them compete in JEE.This will give self estemm to these guys and also a chance to enter these institutions.Instead reserving seats for a paricular community or caste will have long term problems and in India once its implemented it cant be abolished that easily.
